Devil's Arithmetic (1999)
Kirsten Dunst is Hannah, a reluctant teenager who is dragged along for a holiday Passover celebration at her Aunt Eva's house. During the ceremonies she mysteriously travels back through time to war-torn Poland, 1941.
Ending up in a concentration camp, tattooed, with her head shaved, Hannah cannot believe what her nightmare is unfolding - what is worse, to know what is going to happen or not have a clue like the others all around her?
Naked and freezing in the bitter night air, Hannah feels a sense of calm as she prepares for her fate in the gas chamber. As the pellets begin to strike, mercifully Hannah re-awakens back in the present, on the floor of Aunt Eva's apartment.
Now Hannah listens to the family war stories in a completely different way. No longer distant stories told by old people but a hideous vivid memory which must be passed on throughout the generations.
