A tale of hope and sorrow
Set in 19th century Japan, the story of 'The Sea Is Watching' explores the lives of the women working in a seaside geisha house. The house is run by an elderly couple whose geisha staff are a group of women who know their trade and take pride in their careers, with each having a reason for turning to the life of a geisha. Overall, it's a charming, thoroughly watchable film, beautifully shot and with an ending which will leave you wanting more.
