A Good Year

A Good year, maybe, but not a good film

(Edit) 22/07/2007

What seemed like a great little storyline in the trailer, soon turned out to be a film full of poor acting. The kind of stupidly, unamusing antics portrayed by Russell Crowe's character soon had us reaching for the coffee to keep us awake! If you REALLY don't have anything better to do on a VERY rainy afternoon, then it might be worth a watch...otherwise, forget it.

Music and Lyrics

Light hearted and fun

(Edit) 02/08/2007

Hugh Grant at his usual best; polite, funny and educated. Drew Barrymore plays a great part of the highly intelligent and literate counter-part with a job which doesn't suit her intellect. A love story with some fun thrown in. If you liked "Love Actually", then you'll like this. Well worth a watch.

Notes on a Scandal

Acting bonanza

(Edit) 11/08/2007

Wonderfully acted movie with some big names in it. Tale of interwoven lives and needs, of sexual desire across age groups and of the human capacity to go to any extremes to try to obtain it. Stunning performances and very worth watching. Story fairly predictable, but doesn't detract from the enjoyment.

Her Alibi

Good clean fun

(Edit) 15/08/2007

Just a great little film. I first saw this when it came out and loved it. Its a tale of an established author who, having hit a low-point in his writing career due to a relationship break-up, finds himself writing a new book about a fictional "Mickey Spillane"-type detective and acting it out as the third-person narrative. All the while, the plot sees him fall in love and rescue the day and he ends up with a pretty good book at the end! VERY VERY enjoyable...

The Pursuit of Happyness

My unhappyness

(Edit) 19/07/2007

I like Will Smith, I like Thandie Newton and I liked the idea, especially set against a true story. However, to wait so long for any "happyness" to appear and for it to be so understated was a bit of a let down. Most of the good things were left to be announced as post-film on-screen messages, rather than acted out scenes...no mention was made of his girlfriend or her future role either...a bit disappointing.
