From There to Here

All-star cast gives this story credibility

(Edit) 22/03/2022

I think the storyline would have been less believable were it not for the brilliant acting of each member of the cast. Phil Glenister, in particular, shines as the rather dour husband, son and father. You'd think he'd have enough to contend with with his own, somewhat flawed, family (not forgetting another who makes an appearance later on); but, no, he decides to complicate his life in the most infuriating way.

A very enjoyable watch nonetheless.

A Room with a View

Too much artistic licence for my liking

(Edit) 08/03/2022

The film was true to the novel, but it seemed that there was too much focus on 'artistry' rather than the love story. Although beautiful Florence was at the heart of the story (and, specifically, the "view" of the Arno), there were several other landmarks that could have featured - although I appreciate you have to stop somewhere. More importantly, however, there was a lack of continuity and 'flow' of the narrative in places.

A Most Wanted Man

Engaging political thriller

(Edit) 07/02/2016

I agree with AM's review above almost word for word. It really is a most watchable thriller, mainly due to the acting talent on show and a believable plot. Lots of twists and turns and you really can't guess the final denouement.

What We Did on Our Holiday

Interesting but highly enjoyable plot

(Edit) 11/03/2015

Unusual storyline held together by brilliant casting. I particularly liked the actress who played the elder daughter, and Billy Connolly came across as a highly endearing character.

Earth to Echo

Enjoyable family romp

(Edit) 03/03/2015

Just a pleasant 'feel good' film - grown ups should enjoy too. The found footage aspect is a little off-putting at first but you soon get used to it. One or two excellent special effects, cute alien (perhaps could have done more with it) and believable characters.

All Is Lost

Well acted action film

(Edit) 08/10/2014

Robert Redford was very good in this role but, as a previous reviewer suggested, another actor could probably have done just as well. It was an entertaining film and, if you could overlook the few 'sailing' flaws, was a good, simple story.
