The Good Shepherd

Stunning

(Edit) 31/12/2007

I knew nothing about this de Niro directed movie and by the end I was asking myself who directed it, when did it come out, amazing acting and performances from Matt Damon, De Niro of course, the birth of the CIA - just one line made me shiver, 'why is CIA without a 'the'' and the reply, because you don;t have 'the' before God', which says it all, they roam the world doing what they like, it is a shocking ending, one of those films that doesn't get rave reviews anywhere and dies quietly like so many in the movie

Goodbye, Mr. Chips

Unexpectedly good

(Edit) 08/01/2008

I could not believe that Martin Clunes could give such weight to this public school teacher whose career through a second rate public school is followed with deft direction and amazing performances from a cast of complete unknowns. Well done Clunes, and who needs Hollywood, so movingly acted and portrayed.

The Bourne Ultimatum

Bourned Out

(Edit) 07/02/2008

Maybe I have just had enough of slick high action thrillers, but this did not live up to the storyline and feel of the first two Bournes, I just waited for the next amazing crash, car chase, Jason running woodenly through stations, streets, undergrounds, but he is a fine actor and without him these movies would not have been so good. I can see the first two Bournes over and over again, but not the third. Is there a fourth in the pipeline? Hope not. But he is still alive....

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead

Good old Mike Hodges

(Edit) 24/02/2008

He is the perfect director for wet streets at night thrillers, and his bleak endings are a great reflection of life, (Get Carter) Clive Owen plays the man come to avenge his brother's gangland death, is almost great, and Rampling her understated best as his older girlfriend, loveloy low budget British stuff (who cares where the money comes fro to make the movie). Love it.
