'Check in' for a disappointment.... - 1408 review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
04/02/2009

I am a huge fan of the original Stephen King short story on which this movie is based upon. I have read it many, many times and always pondered on what a great film it could become. So, when this came out i shot to the cinema and could barely contain my excitement and anticipation......Perhaps this is where i went wrong.

Because this film just cannot compare to the suspense, the horror and magnitude of the original story.

My advice, only see if you have not read the original.

And if thats the case what you will get here is a adequate, and somewhat different ghost story which will keep you guessing till the last minute. Its shot in extremely atmospheric lighting all of the time and most of the case bring realism and tension to the script, although Mr Cusack in the lead role somewhat underwhelms.

So..... If you have read the original story? DONT GET YOUR HOPES UP!

and... If you haven't? THEN ENJOY A DIFFERENT KIND OF GHOST STORY.

A must see for Cusack fans! - 1408 review by CP Customer

Having made a few duff ones of late, John Cusack is back to his usual brilliant neurotic self in this and for that alone, it was worth watching!

I wouldn't exactely call it a 'horror' film, its not really that 'scary', and not at all gruesome but it is an excellent thriller and it is creepy. Special effects are good and the film has a few good twists that keep you on your toes. Cusack keeps dropping in one liners of dry humour that fit very well with the story.

I wont say anything about the film itself, as the blurb tells all you need to know, the good thing about the film though, is that it is not your typical american story where it goes off and tries to solve the mystery... in this...it just is what it is!!!!
