The Jive Five, The Shirrelles, The Coasters, The Angels - you don't need another word to know for certain we're talking big-time Rhythm and Blues because we're talking some of the biggest-time Black Music stars whose popular genre of the 1940's was the most important element in the development of Rock 'n' Roll and is still informing White Pop today. An eclectic blend of Blues, Jazz, Vaudeville hocum, Swing and Gospel, Rhythm and Blues was perhaps the first Black Music style to impact meaningfully on White listeners and Black Rhythm and Blues hits began to cross over into White Pop charts by the late 1940s.
