Grotesque characters, sexual embarrassment, comic violence and pompous bureaucracy keep the laughs flowing in an acclaimed adaptation of Tom Sharpe's hilarious novel. Unfortunately Sir Giles Lynchwood, an MP of few principles and curious tastes, plans to build a motorway right through it. For generous recompense, he is prepared to demolish the grounds of his country pile that stands in the way of the proposed highway. Sir Giles hasn't bargained for the devious resistance of his wife, Lady Maud, and her fiercely patriotic and loyal gardener, Blott. With her dynamism and his skills in guerrilla warfare, they fight to save her ancestral home, countering bureaucracy and pomposity with their own ingenious and unprincipled strategies.
