Solid British Crime Film

I took a chance with this film, mainly to see Brian Cox in a lead role, which he’s warranted for sometime and was pleasantly surprised. The introductionary credits installed a sense of Guy Ritchie fear, but thankfully Rupert Wyatt avoids many of the clichés to deliver a solid and enjoyable prison break romp. Far superior to anything we’ve had from Mr Ritchie and his British clones of late. The story may not seem original at first, but the way the film delivers the course of events certainly is refreshing. Excellent editing and directing keep you hooked until the predictable ending, and the cast all seem to get stuck in. The restrictions of the budget are fairly obvious with small sets and a handful of actors, but this helps create the gritty environment and assists the impression of being a prisoner in a confined world. No wonder Frank and his colleagues are willing to risk everything to escape it.
