Rent Fragments (2008)

A moment of random violence erupts in an ordinary Los Angeles diner. The survivors (Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Forest Whitaker) find that the meanings of their lives have changed. No matter how much their families and friends attempt to understand, these individuals must follow their own paths to recovery seeking to regain trust in a world that now seems unforgiving. A story of tragedy and hope for our times, Fragments is a powerful ensemble drama that explores the notion that our lives are fleeting and easily fragmented.

What a plot

As I write I am surprised that the current rating is one-and-three-quarters. Possibly the previous reviewer was misled by the description of crime drama. It is a very unusual plot and difficult to assign a genre. The main theme is the effect on different personalities of a catastrophic event. Some of these developments are beautifully played some are not easy to understand and not interesting but this is interwoven with the unravelling of the event. Most of it is excellent. I think a little editing would make it a 5 star.
