George Best was the most naturally gifted British footballer of modern times. From his first days in England it was evident that the shy, homesick Irish boy was special. The talent he paraded, with his football wizardry, assured George of rapid promotion to Manchester United's first team. He remained there for that vintage side 's most dazzling years: an era that effectively ended in 1986 with the European Cup triumph in which he played an inspirational part.
