This film sucks. That's my verdict. It is so bad that I couldn't even watch the entire movie and ejected it from the machine after 10 minutes. Don't waste your time or your money on it. You will be disappointed!!

Good Dick review by Shatner's Bassoon

Don’t be fooled by the title, an impressive poignant indie drama.

‘Good Dick’ revolves around two characters only credited as ‘Man’ and ‘Woman’. ‘Man’ is a homeless video store clerk who works with his three best friends at the Cinefile video rental store. When ‘Man’ serves a young woman who is returning and renting some porn films, he immediately becomes infatuated with her and gets her address from the store records. He clumsily tries to befriend her, first by asking her out and then by bringing her gifts of free porn movies he thinks she would like. ‘Woman’ is unfriendly, dysfunctional, emotionally withdrawn and uninterested in his advances, but eventually he manages to edge his way into her life and soon falls in love with her, though she firmly and often abusively rejects his advances. Despite her constant rejection he patiently tries to build some semblance of a relationship with her. ‘Good Dick’ is quite an odd and sometimes complex movie, as for a large part of the film it often keeps you at arms length as a viewer. You never really find out why the character of ‘Man’ is homeless and sleeping in his car, and not until the final ten minutes of the film is it revealed why ‘Woman’ is so dysfunctional and abusive, though despite this the story and the characters keep you completely absorbed in events unfolding on screen. Overall, this isn’t a film which will appeal to everyone, (and it doesn’t do itself any favours with a DVD cover which makes it look like a romantic comedy), but if you like well crafted, poignant, character based indies with bags of depth then this is a great film and an very impressive debut from writer, director and lead actress Marianna Palka.

Good Dick review by Jawbreaker

A good film is hard to find

Good Dick is an uneventful attempt at comedy that falls flat on its face. A mundane set up that promises romance but is hilariously bad in its execution. A DVD store that seems to run without customers yet features abundant staffing levels is the main focal point. Why the woman wasn’t concerned that a store clerk basically stalked her initially is beyond comprehension. Witty attempts at dialogue, I presume to elevate this to ‘Clerks’ territory, are ill advised. Marianna Palka takes the lead role and also is the director, clearly she is a busy woman, but more focus would have been welcome. Anyone expecting another quirky film along the lines of Lars And The Real Girl will be bitterly disappointed.
