Hyper-intense casting agent Eddie (Sean Penn) is on the verge of a lifestyle crisis and fueling his insecurity, along with his cocaine habit, are his three best friends – business partner Mickey (Kevin Spacey), hungry-for-success actor Phil (Chazz Palminteri) and desperate writer/producer Artie (Gary Shandling). As their personal lives threaten to veer into a catastrophe far more interesting than anything they're peddling to the film studios, three women enter their self-obsessed universe to shatter what little cool reserve they have left. For after Darlene (Robin Wright Penn), the love of Eddie's life, hitchhiking hooker Donna (Anna Paquin) and perpetually stoned exotic dancer Bonnie (Meg Ryan) leave indelible marks on the quartet's ultra macho world, nothing can ever be the same again.
