Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is a family man whose wife and daughter were brutally murdered during a home invasion. When the killers are caught, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), a hotshot young Philadelphia prosecutor, is assigned to the case. Against his will, Rice is forced to offer one of the suspects a light sentence in exchange for testifying against his accomplice. Fast forward ten years... The man who got away with murder is found dead and Shelton coolly admits his guilt. Then he issues a warning to Rice: either fix the flawed justice system, or key players in the trial will die. Soon Shelton follows through on his threats, orchestrating a string of ingenious assassinations from his jail cell.

What a silly film. What a silly plot.

What a silly film. What a silly plot: good guy sees family killed, is let down by a bad prosecutor and the justice system, waits 10 years, then takes revenge against both the killers and the lawyers – but does it all from within a prison cell because he's a rich technical genius...
There's a couple of nice gruesome bits, but the two most gruesome things are: the ending (very silly) and the acting (Jamie Foxx is awful). Sorry, but I didn't enjoy it and can't recommend it. 2/5 stars.

This is what happens when justice fails

What a great movie. The bad guys get their just deserts (oh dear they picked on the wrong one there!) albeit perhaps a bit gory and the good guy determines to change the system. I was enthralled and fascinated at Clyde's ingenuity and very much on his side. There has to be a price to pay for justice and this results from the imperfect system itself. How many time shave we seen that in true life??

The ads I saw when this cam out at the movies don't do it justice. It's one of the best thrillers in a long time. Has a gorey scene but it's in context.
