Sofia Coppola brings to life a fresh interpretation of the life of France's legendary teenage Queen Marie Antoinette. Kirsten Dunst plays the naive and beautiful Marie Antoinette, who is betrothed to King Louis XVI at the tender age of 14, entering an opulent French court which is steeped in conspiracy and scandal. Without guidance and adrift in a dangerous world, the young girl rebels against the isolated atmosphere of Versailles and becomes France's most misunderstood monarch.

'Legally Blonde' with ravishing sets, costumes and music

If you're after historical accuracy and period atmosphere it's true - this is not the movie in which to find that view of Marie Antoinette.
But for a sumptuously gorgeous movie with the exuberance of a shopping spree, the style of a fashonista's favourite music video and an eye for ravishing sets and costumes you are in the right place. I found this to be a unique and delightful movie. In essence, it's a film about a teenage girl who just happened to be a queen some time ago, and it covers the issues you'd expect from that - but whatever you think of the storyline this movie looks so delicious, and the much-discussed 80's soundtrack injects such energy into much of the movie (the 'I Want Candy' sequence alone is worth the rental cost) that you can't help catching a buzz from it. See it - have fun!

All costumes and no plot

The photography, spectacular background and lavish costumes are not enough to make up for a total lack of plot. Surprising given this is about Marie Antionette and the French Revolution. Given the Director's family connections (Copolla's daughter)it was very disappointing. Lots of money had been poured into this but zero talent. If i had not know the history of the period it would have been hard to sit through.

Poor

I was very disappointed with this film. Very little storyline, hardly any script, weak acting and bad ending. Sofia Coppola was possibly trying to be arty but ended up with a vacant, unengaging flop.
