This episode offers little to anybody bar the hardened fan of the Star Wars franchise. In keeping with the earlier films it has a feeble plot but leaves one feeling massively let down. Instead of a joyful romp through space it appears cynical, calculated and much too self-regarding. ........ This films flaws are not in concept but in its miscarried execution. Unspectacular acting performances and unconvincing special effects pollute some pretty shots and grand sets, and leave a very keen feeling of unfulfilled potential by the time the end credits roll. ........ The most profound reaction by the end is relief, perhaps solely because it means no longer having to endure of one the most irredeemably annoying characters in cinema history, who poisons this film and must be regarded as the creators' biggest mistake. Intended as a whimsy, Jar Jar Binks succeeds only in embarrassing the viewer. The nadir of the film is a short scene that stars him with an Eopie - a camel-like beast of burden - and an unfortunately directed fart. Bad luck on Jar-Jar, but it is the viewer that detects the whiff of desperation.
