Four volunteers have singed up for a human research study to make some quick cash. They are placed in a room and told the experiment is designed to explore the limitations of human endurance and psyche. The study begins with four subjects and is narrowed down to one. To their horror, they learn that the elimination process is all about staying alive, whilst those behind it watch from above, unleashing a series of chilling events. Ambitious military body language expert, Emily Riley is brought in to observe and analyse – unaware of the horrors set to unfold before her very eyes. Is there a way out for those trapped in the Killing Room? And can they work out who is behind this lethal game before is too late?

The Killing Room is a provocative film that takes its basis from an infamous covert CIA program known as Project MK-ULTRA. Allegedly the unit was shut down in the 1960’s before the President could investigate, and all documentation destroyed. Some agents claim the experiments continued, and here the Killing Room uses the theory in combination with world events. It’s an intriguing low budget American release that keeps you engaged and guessing until the very end, thankfully avoiding gruesome dispatches. The small cast and set pieces work especially well, with the ending coming as a knockout blow. My only criticism would be the lack of extras on this disc for those that want to go further.
