Lorna is an Albanian immigrant who has contracted a fake marriage with Claudy to obtain citizenship. The Russian Mafia are also involved and Lorna’s conscience is suddenly awakened when she connects with Claudy as a human. But she cannot remove herself from the plot so easily. This is both a thriller and a deep exploration of troubled soul graced by remarkable performances.

If you liked the Dardenne brothers other films such as Rosetta and L'enfant, no doubt you will like this.
Demanding but compelling European cinema.

Interesting & potentially harrowing plot; superb performances; so why does it lead to nothing? I suppose I just could not connect to the lead character who is an extreme opportunist who possibly finds herself at the end while suffering from a delusion. The trouble with films of this nature is that they require the viewer to be involved & when you couldn't care less about the characters involved or find them distasteful then the film will never fully connect.

Impossible to find any redeeming qualities in this poorly shot, appalling acted, predictably scripted, and hilariously badly edited, French film. It's only use is as a lesson in how not to do it.

European Cinema At It's Best

This really is an excellent film which follows Lorna’s attempts to establish herself as a Belgium citizen whilst raising revenue for her own business project. The world of sham marriages and citizenship proves to be a profitable one but fraught with danger. Her own relationship with the reforming addict Claudy becomes complicated as she seeks to help him resist the temptation of drugs. After benefiting herself through such an arrangement she is immediately whisked into a new deal with a Russian, yet she finds it tough to move on. You really feel for Lorna who seems like a genuine, kind and caring woman with good intensions that soon manifest themselves as real reservations about what she is doing. Has her body become no different to that of a prostitute? Available to hire for fake marriages and convenient divorces soon after citizenship is granted?
