Rent The Unborn (2009)

Sometimes the soul of a dead person has been so tainted with evil that it is denied entrance to heaven. It must endlessly wander the borderlands between worlds, desperately searching for a new body to inhabit. And sometimes it actually succeeds. Writer/Director David Goyer gives a terrifying glimpse into the life of the undead in The Unborn, a supernatural thriller that follows a young woman pulled into a world of nightmares when a demonic spirit haunts her and threatens everyone she loves. Casey Bell (Odette Yustman) hated her mother for leaving her as a child. But when inexplicable things start to happen, Casey begins to understand why she left. Plagued by nightmares and a tortured ghost that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only person who might be able to make it stop a respected and experienced spiritual advisor and exorcist caled Sendak.

A good horror for a change. Something different. I enjoyed this movie but I would not watch it again.

The Unborn review by Jawbreaker

MTV Fodder
(0) of (1) members found this review helpful.
The Unborn reeks of decay, displaying an unhealthy MTV styled cast and unsatisfactory plot that seeks to incorporate the Exorcist, Ring and other shockers. It fails miserably. The script is full of holes, more than you would expect in any film that deals with the supernatural. Avoiding spoilers you have to question why the affected who point Casey in the right direction didn’t follow the path themselves. The Unborn may have some basis in Jewish folklore but the execution by David S. Goyer and his team is awful. Like One Missed Call it tries to implement a series of flashbacks and cheap shocks as Odette Yustman seeks salvation. Produced by Michael Bay and others, this is his vision of film making; extremely glamorous; rapid action and little else. If you have enjoyed other similar horrors of late then this is ideal rental fodder, but for anyone seeking a real horror or an experience with more depth and quality, avoid.
