In communist Prague in 1989, Baron Utz, an impassioned and once wealthy nobleman, is living in poverty with his priceless collection of MEISSEN porcelain, having promised the state that he will leave it to them when he dies.
New York art dealer Marius Fischer meets Utz at an auction and is determined to get his hands on the collection.

When the Baron has a stroke, his best friend Dr. Orlik informs Fischer that the collection may be for sale and he hurries to Prague only to find the porcelain has gone missing.

Fischer meets Marta, the Baron's devoted maid and soon realises that she holds the key to the whereabouts of the missing porcelain.
