- Mysterious, reclusive furniture-maker Michael McCann (Steve Martin) leads a quiet, simple life until fate delivers an orphanedtwo-year-old girl to his doorstep. After taking the tot into his home and into his heart, McCann and young Mathilda start a fulfilling new life as father and daughter - despite some slightly unconventional child-rearing methods. But soon another twist of fate threatens to take Mathilda away when her natural father, a powerful local politician, comes to claim her as his own!
