Palettes: A series of films devoted to the great works in painting history. Thanks to recent developments in video animation technique, the secrets of these images are revealed like thrilling adventures of discovery.
Edouard Vuillard - Memory Lanes:The-Public Gardens - painted in 1874, is a series of nine wall panels. Five of the panels are in the Orsay museu, three are in other museums, the ninth has disappeared. Under the apparent simplicity of the subject matter a multitude of historical and technical mysteries are hidden. Application of video tools allows us to clarify some of these, and even to reconstruct the disappeared panel. Deciphering a canvas of Vuillard, the viewer is plunged in a remarkable adventure full of unexpected turns. (30 Minutes)
Georges Pierre Seurat - An Orange Green Utopia:
In 1886 the last show of impressionists takes place. An unknown man of 26 years, George Seurat, exhibits a very large canvas. A Sunday on la Grande Jatte. An amazing luminosity, a swarming of tiny specks, a classically handled landscape, though populated with caricatured figures: the canvas causes some scandal. It will lead to the birth of a group, the neo-impressionists, and above all will mark all following generations: fauvist, cubist, futurist. (30 Minutes)
Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec - A Fin de Siecle Legend:
La Gouiue, a famous cancan dancer, asks her friend Toulouse-Lautrec for two paintings to decorate her booth. The destiny of the two largest canvases created by the artist will become a tall story. They will be resold, cut into pieces by a rude merchant and eventually restored in 1929. Like Manet and Degas, the painter uses a petrol diluted paint: lacking in oil, the pigments are very flat, but also much more vulnerable. (30 Minutes)- Directors:
