In his one man performance "Rede/Speech", Blixa Bargeld explores the boundaries of language and music. The audience bears witness to the metamorphosis of sentences, words and syllables into acoustic architecture, resounding spheres and cacophonous monstrosities. The equipment used is minimal: a man alone on stage with 4 foot pedals, and a microphone linked up to a looping machine, no instrumental accompaniment or pre-recorded samples. The results, however, are anything but minimal. In the space of two hours, he creates a new solar system on stage (based on the scientific knowledge of 1789, including the moons and asteroids), attempts genetic manipulation towards the advancement of evolution, pits the abstract concepts "astonishment" and "doubt" against each other in three rounds of heated boxing match, recreates the techno beats as experienced on the German autobahn and deconstructs the elegiac chords of "Johnny Guitar", all by looping words, syllables, and vocalisations which build into songs and then sometimes break apart again. Bargeld uses his voice alone to generate all the elements of what become complex but improvised compositions. Most astonishing is the consistently entertaining side of this man, which doesn't appear in vain in the subtitle of this performance: Entertainment! Bargeld Entertainment! - Actors:
