Amazingly uplifting story - Breathe review by Champ

Spoiler Alert
25/09/2018

The synopsis of this film would put most people off - a man is paralysed from the next down after contracting polio, and then lives with it for 30 years. But in fact, the film is wonderfully uplifting and inspiring, and great illustration of the tenacity of the human spirit. Of course, the tragedy of the story is very tragic indeed, and the tears definitely flowed at some points of the film, but the was lots and lots of laughter too.

The cast is excellent throughout, but Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy deserve to be singled out for portraying what is essentially a deep and moving love story. The phrase "love conquers all" is the sort of cliche that would normally make me gag, but in this case it damn well did!

This movie is superb. A moving true story that is both interesting and not too sentimental.

Beautiful settings, well acted, and funny !

Well done to all concerned.

A treat.

Rent it! - Breathe review by JG

Great film. Follows a long line of similar films that portray the resilience of folk faced with life threatening illnesses and how they fight back with amazing tenacity.

In Breathe Andrew cavendish contracts polio and is left in a state of permanent paralysis. His wife will not let him give in and anchors him to life. Together they change history by turning conventional medical science of the time upside down. With the help of a friend a wheelchair is built that can carry and deliver oxygen. This wheelchair transforms the lives of many more of these hospital bound polio victims who had more or less been written off.

Along with You before me, The best of men, Brief history of time and Untouchable - Breathe is a deeply moving film that retaliates against big brother, and wins . Highly recommended. Rent it !
