He is Marty Starr, founder of Purple Star Records. He is also the man who transformed Marla into a household name. In fact, he changed her name... from Mavis Davis. But Marla has aged, her record sales have slumped and half her fans switched allegiance to Alanis Morrisette! Meanwhile, Marty has had his house repossessed, his Jaguar blown up and his life threatened by two unsavoury loan sharks. Oh yes, and there's that little problem of his money-grabbing ex-wife, to whom he owes three months' worth of alimony. For a terrifying, heart-stopping moment, Marty Starr sees no way out of his catastrophic predicament. Then, inspired by the voice of Elvis Presley, he stumbles across a path of escape and untold wealth. Of course!
