Synopsis:
Collection of five archive short films and documentaries made by the GPO Film Unit at the height of the London Blitz to help build morale in the darkest days of the war. 'The Story of an Air Communique' (1940) was made for the Ministry of Information to show how accurate the figures were for downed enemy aircraft. 'Britain Can Take It' (1940) looks at the effects of the bombing,and is presented by American journalist Quentin Reynolds,who took the film straight to FDR to build American support for the British war effort. 'Britain at Bay' (1940) has a commentary written and narrated by J.B. Priestly,designed to boost morale after the collapse of France.
'Men of the Lightship' (1940) is a reconstruction of the bombing of the East Dudgeon lightship. Finally,'Christmas Under Fire' (1941) is again presented by Reynolds,and looks at the first Christmas in London during the Blitz.
