- Adrift on a life raft and patiently waiting to be found at sea, war hero Capt. Edward "Eddie" Rickenbacker (Fred MacMurray) thinks back on the story of his amazing life, beginning with his early childhood in Columbus, Ohio. Against the background of American progress, Eddie finds success in both military and civilian spheres - as a decorated pilot, race car driver and innovative entrepreneur. Along the way, Eddie fights for the attentions of the beautiful Adelaide Frost (Lynn Bari).
