Synopsis:
Documentary series examining the history of the castles of Britain and Ireland.

Bunratty Castle
Located in Shannon, Ireland, Bunratty Castle is the only remnant of the once flourishing town of Bunratty that today is nothing more than a quiet village. The castle, one of the finest 15th century relics still standing in Ireland, has a dramatic and bloody history. The castle has been destroyed eight or nine times and has seen many bloody murders. The present castle was built around 1450 and contains mainly 15th and 16th cenlury furnishings. Bunratty was restored during the 1960s and houses Lord Gort's magnificent collection of tapestries and works of art. Today Bunratly hosts medieval feasts which are open to the public.
Glamis Castle
One of the most famous haunted castles in Scotland; Glamis is a magnificent tower-house castle containing a secret chamber known only to each heir. It houses a fine collection of furniture, china, tapestry and paintings, and today, a self-service restaurant. Glamis Castle is the place where, according to Shakespeare's play, King Duncan was killed in 1034 by Macbeth. Also, Lady Janet Douglas, widow of the Earl of Glamis, was burned on this spot in 1540 for having conspired to kill the Scottish King.
