Omnipotent aliens arrive to save humanity from self-destruction. Under their benign gaze, war, famine and injustice become things of the past. Good adaption - Childhood's End review by GS

I read the original novel, which was set in the early 1950's. This is a good updated version. In the original novel the extra-terrestrials appear when humankind (the Americans and Soviets specifically) are just starting spaceflight. In this version it is because they are on the verge of inter stellar flight. Some of the subplots have been very well amalgamated.

Truly awful.

American exceptionalism is rife in what was written as an internationalist story. Don't bother.
