Synopsis:
This is the story of Southern West Country-class 34027 "Taw Valley". She was saved by a single-minded Yorkshireman with a romantic streak who rescued it from the scrapyard in 1980 as a birthday gift for his wife. The enigmatic Bulleid West Country and Battle of Britain engines formed the largest class of 4-6-2 passenger express locomotives ever built in Britain. They were a startling sight - streamlined, painted a lurid shade of green with a sump like a car and chains to drive the valve gear. "Taw Valley" is a rebuilt version, proudly restored by her owner Bert Hitchen, an ex-serviceman and racing cyclist.
This video is a unique record of 34027 "Taw Valley" on the Orient Express in Southern England. We join the footplate crew for live action commentary of the engine at work and go behind the scenes with the men who care for the West Country Bulleid. With dozens of lineside locations and aerial sequences, it's one of the most complete records of an engine ever captured on film.
