- Synopsis:
Based on A. J. Cronin's novella, 'Country Doctor', the much-loved series centres on a general medical practice in the fictional Scottish town of Tannochbrae during the late 1920's. The key characters include the youthful and forward-looking Dr. Alan Finlay (Bill Simpson), his senior medical partner, the traditional but highly pragmatic Dr. Angus Cameron (Andrew Cruickshank), and their unflappable and devoted housekeeper, Janet MacPherson (Barbara Mullen). Soon after it premiered in 1962, 'Dr. Finlay's Casebook' became one of the cornerstones of BBC drama, and it never shied away from controversial issues such as abortion and poverty. In this dramatic episode, Dr. Finlay is left exhausted after a lengthy flu epidemic. When he requests a holiday, his mentor and boss Dr. Cameron expresses his belief that a break from work is a sign of questionable dedication. Long hours running the surgery and the village's challenging patients force Finlay to consider his future. This episode has not been seen for over 50 years and was thought to be lost forever. It was miraculously found by Kaleidoscope Television and restored by the 'Doctor Who' restoration team. - Actors:
