- Taxi driver Tom Manning (Richard Attenborough) is wrongly accused of the murder of an eight-year-old girl on a London bombsite. Jill (Cathy O'Donnell), his fiercely loyal young wife, wins the active sympathy of Peter Tanner (Derek Farr), Junior Counsel for the Defence. Against heavy odds, Peter proves a barrister of great ability and resource...but can he save Tom from the gallows?
