Synopsis:
In "Gangs of Britain" Gary and Martin Kemp take the viewer on an immersive journey across the UK in which they reveal who ran and who now runs gangland Britain. By connecting the fascinating historical stories of the country's first criminal fraternities (from Manchester's Scuttlers, and Birmingham's Brummagems to The Liverpool Cornermen) with the multi faceted gangs of today, they build up a criminal Who Do You Think You Are, full of amazing stories, characters and facts of British gangs. In each episode Gary and Martin visit a different city where they tell the connected stories of one modern day and one historical gang, through interview, archive and re-construction.

Manchester
For over a hundred years Manchester has had a deep-rooted gang culture. Gary and Martin investigate and compare two Manchester gangs whose crimes so shocked both the public and the authorities that they each brought about radical changes in the fight against organized crime. Two murders perpetrated in Manchester, but although they happened in the same city they took place over one hundred years apart. Martin looks at the Gooch Gang, who were active until only a few years ago, and who tortured and killed without a second thought and were responsible for around two dozen cold-blooded murders. While Gary investigates the Scuttlers, a name that sent fear through the streets of Manchester over a hundred years ago.
