Ghaath is a journey of a ordinary man, a man with a vision and mission. But his aspirations go haywire in the mist of diabolic games played by both cops and politicians.
Krishna Patil (Manoj Bajpai) is the lower middle class protagonist, whose father Ramokant Patil (Aupam Kher) is an idealist. Krishna's sister Mansi (Sheeba) gets betrothed to scribe Divakar (Arshad Waris).
Krishna who is rearing to join the police force, gets into an altercation with the local goons and cops and as a consequence invites trouble for himself. He becomes a nuisance for the corrupt cop Godbole (Mukesh Tiwari), and power broker Mamu (Irfan Khab).
Krishna however surmounts all the hurdles and emerges trumps from the police training with the blessings of a senior inspector Ajay Pandey (Om Puri), but he is rejected due to the interference from the higher-ups, Kavita Choudhary, (Tabu) a advocate meets him during the training and an attachment develops between them. But there is a shock for Krishna-his sister Mansi and her husband Divakar are exterminated.
Krishna swears vengeance against Mamu. Panday stops him. But there are others too, like social worker Tinnu Anand, deputy Municipal Commissioner Sachin Khedekar etc. waiting to unleash their fury on Mamu. But Krishna is the one who accomplishes his mission and....HE IS WAITING TO KILL!
