Synopsis:
Famous dramatization of the notorious true-life incident that kicked off the German invasion of Poland in 1939. A small group of German operatives, led by one Alfred Naujocks, seized control of a small radio station in Gleivitz (Glewice) in upper Silesia. There, they broadcast a message in Polish, urging Poles to foment riot and dispel the Nazi horde. The undercover operatives even used Franciszek Honiok a local German who sympathized with the Poles and had been arrested the previous day by Gestapo. He was dressed as a saboteur, poisoned then his body was shot up to look like he'd been killed in the struggle - his body was the justification Germans presented to police and the press.
The incident was held up by the Nazis as justification for their subsequent invasion of Poland and was thus the starting pistol for WWII. The Gleiwitz incident was only uncovered at the Nuremburg Trials when Naujocks and others testified.
