Synopsis:
The incredible raids were some of the most daring operations of the War. Airmen, soldiers, commandos and sailors undertook vital assaults that would shift the delicate balance of the war, fully aware that they might never return. With the use of veterans' accounts, carefully researched archive film and meticulous reconstructions, these recreations take us to the heart of the most audacious and breathtaking action imaginable.

1. Stopping Hitler's A-Bomb
In 1943, a team of Norwegian raiders was sent to destroy a factory producing heavy water - the last ingredient in Hitler's nascent nuclear bomb.
2. Prison Busters
The only way to enable a mass escape of Resistance operatives vital to the Allied invasion was for Mosquito planes to fly low enough to breach the Amiens prison walls.
3. Radar Beam Raiders
German radar was scuttling RAF missions until a team of Britain's paratroops were sent to a key installation to seize specific apparatus and destroy the station.
4. Storm at St. Nazaire
On 26 March 1942, the destroyer HMS Campbeltown, packed with commandos and explosives, set out on a daring mission to destroy the great dry dock at St. Nazaire.
5. Cockleshell Raiders
Ninety miles up the heavily-guarded Gironde river, the vital port of Bordeaux was seemingly unassailable until the Royal Marines sent a special raiding force in canoes.
6. Arctic Commando Assault
In December 1941, the new Commando force undertook its first action, a morale-boosting assault on Vaagso, an island off Norway used as a German base.
