Synopsis:
Video technology came too late to record the golden years of Britain's railways during the steam era, but thanks to a handful of amateur cameramen armed with 8mm cine cameras, many images of the "Iron Horse" have been saved for posterity. This series is a collection of some of those shots and Part I covers London, the South Midlands and the South West. Our journey starts at Rugby and continues via Leamington Spa, Banbury, Oxford and Reading. From Reading we head west, looking at Swindon Works shed and station. We pause at Bath and Bristol before a nostalgic look at the former Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. From there it's London via Salisbury and Basingstoke.
All the shots, taken in the 1950's and 1960's, are totally original and are in full colour with sound track and commentary.
