Martin Shaw returns to 1960s Northumberland as Inspector George Gently in four feature length films. The series throws Chief Inspector Gently into a maelstrom of murders and mayhem, whilst lovingly recreating the swinging sixties as it finally hits the North-East, in perfect and nostalgic detail. Chief Inspector George Gently is the classic unsung hero of detective fiction and in Martin Shaw's expert hands he becomes a passionate, growling, ex-army boxer. With his sidekick, the ambitious and undisciplined Detective Sergeant John Bacchus, they make the perfect police partnership, full of warmth and humour. Gently and Bacchus investigate the murder of the occupant of Harrison House but the old children's home hides secrets that no one wants to talk about.
2. Gently in the Night
The body of a young woman is discovered in a church. Investigating, Gently and Bacchus uncover the seedy nature of the hostess club where she worked.
3. Gently in the Blood
During an investigation on the trade in fake passports, the body of a young civil servant is found by the sea alongside her mixed-race baby.
4. Gently Through the Mill
The manager of a mill is found hanged after an apparent suicide, but money is missing from the office safe and Gently suspects foul play.- Actors:
