Synopsis:
Dante, a hind but somewhat naive school bus driver, falls in love with the beautiful and sophisticated Maria. Strangely, Maria seems equally enamoured of Dante and asks him to join her in Palermo. There's only one problem, Maria is married to the Mafioso, Johnny "The Toothpick" Stecchino, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the hapless bus driver...

Spoiler Alert

eloquently hillarious, mannerisims unlike any other, misunderstandings and inconceivable coincidence, true to form for benigni, a film people should learn italian for so they can understand and pick up each fraction of comedy.

his accent is only part of whar is missed on subtitles, for this he makes up in his gestures and manerisims wonderful depiction of tuscan comedy.

Not Life is Beautiful - Johnny Stecchino review by Swambi

Spoiler Alert
08/08/2006

This film is similar to 'Life is Beautiful' but not so good. Roberto and Nicoletta make a great combination, the music is good, and much of the humour really funny, but at times let down by going over the top. The 18 rating relates to drug use, which the naive Dante is convinced is a new medicine. Otherwise I think this is similar to films rated around 12. The picture quality of the film on DVD was rather poor and fuzzy. Overall well worth watching, if you like Benigni's style, but don't expect another 'Life is Beautiful'.
