If you like US psychobabble therapy, you'll like this movie - Louder Than Bombs review by PV

I must admit I am not a fan of all these weepy, pschobabbly, US dramas - they're way too self-indulgent for my tastes, as is the entire psychobabble, self-esteem, therapy industry.

But for its genre, this film is an OK watch and not overlong, thank goodness.

Not sure it's believable though. I had a lot of niggles like that.

And some of the dream sequences are absurd and add nothing but padding. As was the war photography shtick.

But Jesse E and Gabriel B are always watchable.

3 stars. JUST.

LOUDER THAN BOMBS - Louder Than Bombs review by SM

It was an ok film, but I didn't love it. A bit disjointed with times moving, not sure what was real & what wasn't. Good actors so shame about the film.

Stylish and unique - Louder Than Bombs review by EN

Excellent movie, didn't disappoint. Recommended to those who look for something intelligent, stimulating and thought-provoking. Excellent performances all round, especially by the always-fabulous Isabelle Huppert as the celebrated war photographer around whose death the film centres its unusual narrative.

Most interesting is how the strangeness of time and different perspectives are shown in the film, e.g. how past and present fuse, get confused and overlap; how time-delays sometimes make time seem to go backward; and how seeing things from different perspectives often completely flips around something you think you've just 'seen' and thought you understood, only to be completely challenged and shown that what you think you saw was not what you thought. Exciting movie.
