- Academy Award winner Al Pacino plays Manglehorn, an ageing ex-con locksmith who has loved, lost and now locked up his life for good. Bitterly disenchanted and alone, he stubbornly refuses to let go of the past, even once he meets Dawn (Academy Award winner Holly Hunter) and has an opportunity for a new beginning. But whilst he might be finished with life he soon finds out it hasn't finished with him just yet. Director David Gordon Green (Joe) delivers a beautiful portrait of life's latter years complimented by one of the most rich and subtle performances from Pacino in years, all signalling Manglehorn as a future American indie classic.

Not one of Al's best. Dreary bloke doing dreary stuff. Kitchen sink meets big brother. If the main man decided to have a wash and shave may help.

sad, slow, humourless - Manglehorn review by RD
Yes this must be a low point for Mr Pacino.
It's a sad tale of a man who's given up and is obsessed by an old partner who returns his many letters that he writes to her. He has an argument with his son, and a failed date with a bank clerk, but neither scenes are allowed to develop or resolve, so the whole film drags on slowly and lacks any achievement or humour. You end up feeling just as hopeless and bored with life as Manglehorn himself.
The end of the film comes as a surprise as you've waited so long for something to happen - and it doesn't.

A waste of time and talent - Manglehorn review by CW
I totally agree with the review by RD. I must have chosen this film because of Al Pacino and Holly Hunter and kept watching assuming that their stories would be developed. Pacino plays an likeable character and Holly Hunter is not given the chance to display what a fine actress she is. The movie tries to be important but it is not.
