Massenet's musical idiom is always about sensuously tasteful beauty. He meets the demands of the constantly changing atmosphere of eighteenth-century society, which is charming on the outside but totally morbid-decadent on the inside, by continually changing the pitch, voice technique and the character of expression, which happens on average between each 20th and 30th bar and altogether more than two hundred times!
