Synopsis:
Nick Hart is a full-time fly fishing instructor who will help you get the most from the sport through his Fly Fishing School series, made exclusively for OnlineFishing.tv. His guiding and tuition is extensive throughout all aspects of fly fishing, both home and abroad. Nick Hart s Flyfishing School is a fly fishing series both to inspire and instruct as he passes on the basics of fly fishing techniques and methods with infectious enthusiasm. There are five classic episodes which include: Fly Fishing Small Still Waters (38mins) There are many small still water fisheries dotted all over the country which are well stocked with rainbow trout and ideal for the novice and seasoned angler.
In this episode Nick runs through the basics, from recommending the right rod and reel, to a lesson in roll and overhead casting. He explains the importance of watercraft and simplifies the bewildering subject of fly selection. Fly Fishing Large Still Waters (28mins) The thought of fly fishing on a reservoir or lake can be a daunting prospect, but in this episode Nick dilutes the challenges of bank and boat fishing. After explaining the importance of rod and line selection, he sets up leaders and decides on his fly choices. With the success of a 3lb rainbow caught on the bank, it s on to the boats. Dry Fly Trout In Small Streams (34 min) A trout stream typifies the quintessential image of fly fishing in the UK. This episode is a comprehensive guide of how to approach and prepare for these wild and challenging streams. Nick explains the sensitivity of rod and line selection and watercraft necessary in the pursuit of wild brown trout and the Lady of the Stream , grayling. Salmon On Small Rivers (29mins) Salmon are regarded as the King of Fish and it s assumed you d have to be a king to afford to catch one. In this episode Nick destroys the assumption and catches a salmon on a small and non-exclusive river in the south west of England. Nick points out the salmon runs, pools and back eddies which will produce fish, and proves that this powerful and majestic species can be caught on small rivers. Carp & Pike On The Fly (31mins) As an alternative to the classic fly fishing quarry, Nick has been fascinated by using his fly rod and techniques to pursue two of the most revered species in the UK. Nick explains the two very different approaches. For carp he borrows some coarse fishing tactics and combines them with fly fishing methods off the surface. Whilst for the pike, Nick arms himself with some heavyweight fly gear and outrageous fly patterns to attract these ferocious predators.
