Synopsis:
On this fascinating video, Norman Blake shows you, up close, the elements that make his guitar playing singularly beautiful and unique. Expanding on the basics he covered in his first Homespun lesson, he teaches ten original and traditional songs and instrumentals selected from his vast repertoire, each one featuring his trademark flatpick-and-fingers style. To this he adds crosspicking, drones, string-hopping, ornaments, bass lines, slides and other means of making a solid instrumental statement. Norman demonstrates his powerful back-up technique, and discusses 'how to do teh most with the least', which he brings to bear on these masterful arrangements.
As a bonus, you'll hear about Norman's preference for 12-fret, short scale guitars (he plays a 1934 Martin 00-40H on this video), andd ideas about practicing, adding syncopation to get 'those notes between notes', and many other insihgts into flatpick style.
