Synopsis:
The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard), taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate's fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther (Isabella Fuhrman).
Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there's something wrong with Esther—this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Esther's sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too late...for everyone.

Well directed, acted and a great story. - Orphan review by CP Customer

I wasn’t going to bother with ‘Orphan’, but I'm glad I did as it’s easily one of the best horror thrillers of 2009. Child lead Isabelle Fuhrman pretty much carries the whole film on her young shoulders, effortlessly switching between an angelic, charming child and manipulative homicidal monster. While it’s not the scariest or horrific film you’ll ever see ’Orphan’ is certainly one of the best due to the excellent storyline and top notch acting.

Good casting - Orphan review by RL

What I like about this one is that it has the feel of a indie flick but has established names in Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard as well as great breakout roles from Isabelle Fuhrman and Aryana Engineer. It starts off as a straight family drama then slowly gets creepy, then downright evil, before coming to a satisfying and not overdrawn conclusion. Excellent acting and good atmosphere. Worth a watch.

Good plot about a couple adopting a reserved little girl who turns their lives into a nightmare. Great twist 3/4's of the way through,

great acting by all. Could put you off adopting though.
