Synopsis:
Parisian art historian Sandrine Voillet is your guide to the tempestuous history, immortal beauty and bohemian soul of the most romantic city in the world. Guiding viewers through more than 800 years of Paris' history, Sandrine celebrates the art, revolutions and characters that have combined to create this spectacular "City of Light". From the Renaissance to the French Revolution, from the construction of the Eiffel Tower to Mitterand's Grands Projets, the city has borne witness to extraordinary people and events. Sandrine explores the city's secrets: its blood-stained past, treacherous plots and illicit love affairs.
The lavish court of Louis XVI during the sexual decadence of revolutionary Paris; the crazy tears of the early 1900s, played out in the Moulin Rouge and Foiles Bergere; the jazz explosion of the 30s; and 60s hedonism, bring forward a cast of extraordinary people inspired by the city, including Marquise de Sevigne, Marquis de Sade, Voltaire, Denis Diderot, Honore Daumier, Auguste Rodin, Pablo Picasso, Josephine Baker, Jane Birkin and Christian Lacroix, among many others. Surrounded by friends and fellow locals, Sandrine also explores today's Paris - a vibrant, multicultural city with a life force of its own. Treading the Haussmann boulevards, street markets and secret courtyards, she reveals what drives this most romantic, chic and elegant of cities.

Fabulous entertainment - Paris: An Insider's Guide review by TB

This BBC three part documentary, each 50 mins long, is wonderfully presented by a very watchable Sandrine Voillet who gives a very knowledgeable and at times personal tour of the city. My only slight complaint is that I found the editing a little too quick. However very enjoyable particularly with a glass of wine and petite bowl of olives :-)
