Synopsis:
Helene Junot (Joan Collins) is powerful, wealthy and beautiful. Envied for her success, she is surrounded by enemies who seek to destroy her. A self-made entrepreneur. Helene is a woman with a past. As a young girl (Catherine Mary Stewart) in occupied France, she had witnessed the murder of her pregnant mother, had her brother and sister cruelly torn away from her and endured rape and beatings at the hands of the Nazis. In Paris, struggling to survive and by now grown to a sensual woman. Helene encounters Jacques (William Allen Young), an up-and-coming fashion photographer, who sets her on the road to fame, moulding her into the hottest model in France.
Climbing the ladder of success, she becomes a designer and then director of one of Paris' top fashion houses. Helene's magnetism attracts men and she is haunted by the unwanted attentions of the decadent Count De Ville (Jean-Pierre Aumont). When she encounters ah American officer (James Farentino) on his way to Vietnam. Helene falls madly in love but happiness eludes her. Against her will she is forced to seek money from the evil Count, in order to finance a famed Nazi hunter (Paul Freeman), who is on the trail of her long-lost brother and Von Eiderfeld (Steven Berkoff), the notorious Nazi who tore her family apart. She marries an American composer (Gene Kelly) but once again personal contentment is snatched from her clutches, when the Count intervenes and tragedy ensues. Helene's reputation is blackened and she throws herself into her career, creating a publishing empire which becomes the toast of Paris. Reunited with her brother (Timothy Dalton), who has spent fifteen years in mental institutions. Helene's lust for revenge continues. Once again her path crosses with the American officer, but their plans to marry are ruined, as Helene's tarnished reputation threatens to jeopardise her lover's promising political career. Helene's empire flourishes, but her ruthlessness in love and calculating ambition in business renders her a vulnerable target for the powerful enemies from her past, who seek to destroy her. Surrounded by adversaries, Helene is faced not only with possibly losing the empire she has so painstakingly created but when a more sinister and deadly element intervenes, her fight for survival takes on a new dimension.
