Synopsis:
Double bill of UK British comedies.

The Penny Pool (1937)
Yorkshire comedian Duggie Wakefield and his Lancashire Gang come to the rescue of an ordinary working girl (Luanne Shaw) who loses her job for filling in a Penny Pool football coupon in the work's time. When she is also cheated out of her winnings a wealthy young businessman played by Tommy Fields (Grade's brother!) falls in love with her. With Duggie's Gang they decide to right a wrong and in the process cause plenty of chaos and laughter! This wonderful pre-war film also features performances from many of the Variety acts of the period such as Macari and His Dutch Serenaders, the Marie Louise Sisters, Jack Lewis's Singing Scholars and even a young Frank Randle!
Stick 'Em Up (1950)
Released as 'Let's Have a Murde'r in England, this hour long version stars Jimmy Jewel and Ben Warriss as two inept detectives who are brought in by Colonel Gordon (Stewart Rome) to save his son from a murder charge and the gallows. As the detective duo searches for clues to clear Gordon's name, they find a suspect in Professor Ralph Witkoff (David Greene) who is a psychoanalyst with a hankering for women's jewels. This surviving print of the Jewel/Warriss double act may have seen better days, but its welcome release gives a taste of this great Northern comedy act in their prime.e!
