Bruce Willis and James Garner are out to make a movie and solve a murder in Blake Edwards "SUNSET", the fictional adventures of two of America's greatest real-life heroes. Willis (The Fifth Element, Die Hard) stars as Tom Mix - Hollywood's hottest action-hero who's been cast to play the legendary lawman Wyatt Earp. Trouble is, Earp (Garner, Twilight, Maverick) has been hired to work as a technical expert on the film - and this doesn't sit too well with the big at-the-top-of-his-career movie star Mix. Even worse...Earp doesn't take too well to movie moguls and the fancy studio life. So, the Old West and the new Hollywood collide and inadvertently become a vivid backdrop for one of the most shocking murder mysteries ever to scorch the silver screen. Come back to a lost time when movies were just plain outrageous, in SUNSET... the action-packed adventure this side of Hollywood and Vine. The setting is 1930's but the relatively youthful Garner and Willis and the glamorous western feel make it feel like it was filmed in the 70's. The plot is a typical Saturday morning western, albeit quite violent in parts. Although the acting is good and the villains (of which there are many)are all detestable, it does drag on. There is a long irrelevant scene of Mexican dancing in the middle during which I nearly lost the will to keep watching.

A Mixed Bag - Sunset review by MS
I was a bit disappointed at first because I thought it would be a comedy (what with it being a Blake Edwards film), however there are funny moments in it, and I'm glad I rented it. This film has: a mediocre first act; a terrible middle act; and an amazing final act.
The acting is good (especially from Garner & McDowell), it's very well made, and the story idea is great (it's about an evil film producer who thinks he can get away with anything, so it's aged brilliantly). The problems are: the side characters aren't introduced to us well; and it's hard to follow the plot (until the superb final act, that is).
In conclusion, this is a good film (when you understand what it's about).
