When World War II guns suddenly fell silent, a new kind of war surfaced in the United States. Unlike the Great War, this war was fought in the homes of Americans ? between confused teenagers who were trying to establish a place for themselves and equally perplexed parents who were trying to understand their rebellious offspring. These battles for supremacy were bitterly fought encounters with no clear victors. One problem identified by experts was the communication gap between two generations and various governmental and social organizations soon took to educating both the warring factions (parents and teens) in the hope of restoring domestic peace. Although the winds of change have blown over these problems ? perhaps making way for more sinister ones ? some of the issues dealt with in these clips are relevant to parents, teens and to councilors even today ? such as the value of instilling pride and self belief among teenagers.
